Have you decided to start orthodontic treatment to realign and correct the occlusion of your teeth?
After selecting the most qualified orthodontist to ensure optimal results, the next step is to choose the type of dental appliance that best suits your needs.
Primarily, when selecting the orthodontic approach, they are influenced by two key factors: cost and visual appearance. In this publication, we aim to address all your concerns related to the expense associated with the acquisition of a dental device that will not only improve your oral health, but also the esthetics of your smile.
The study for the placement of a dental orthodontic appliance.
Before proceeding with the placement of any type of dental appliance, it is essential to perform a complete orthodontic examination. Through a series of diagnostic evaluations, including intraoral and extraoral photographs, x-rays and cephalometrics, the orthodontic specialists on our medical team will assess your situation and design a personalized treatment plan.
Depending on your particular case and your goals, our orthodontists will advise you on the choice of the most appropriate appliance and provide an estimate of the time needed for the procedure. This will allow us to provide you with a more accurate quote for treatment.
What types of orthodontic braces are there and how much do they cost?
It is essential to keep in mind that the cost of orthodontic treatment can vary significantly depending on the type of appliance you wish to use. Other factors to consider in calculating the total cost include the complexity and duration of the treatment. Below, we provide information on different types of dental braces, along with their features and prices.
Metal Brackets and Damon Brackets.
Metal brackets represent a very traditional fixed orthodontic option that is commonly used for children, although it is also chosen by some adults. Metal brackets are the most affordable alternative, with a starting price starting at €2,505. Damon brackets, on the other hand, are similar to metal brackets, but with one key difference: they do not require ligatures to hold the archwire to the bracket. Instead, they have a self-ligating system that reduces the time needed for check-ups in the clinic. This device has a slightly higher cost, and you can start orthodontic treatment with Damon brackets from €2,895.
Transparent brackets.
For those individuals who desire a bite correction approach that has a more discreet visual impact, clear sapphire brackets are an excellent alternative. Although this treatment has a higher cost than metal brackets, it is an affordable option for those who highly value their oral image and esthetics. They are transparent brackets made of a material that does not stain over time. Its price starts at 2,995 €.
Invisible Orthodontics
Invisible orthodontics encompasses two treatments that are in great demand by our patients: Invisalign and Incognito. Both are virtually invisible dental devices, ideal for those who wish to keep their orthodontic treatment a secret. However, each system has unique characteristics and the choice between one or the other depends on the individual patient’s lifestyle.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Invisalign is based on removable clear aligners that are changed every two weeks. In other words, it is bracket-free orthodontics that is remarkably comfortable and virtually invisible, being noticeable only at extremely short distances.
It is important to note that, in order to achieve effective results, it is essential that the patient wears these aligners at least 22 hours a day. The price of this invisible dental device starts at €3,690.
Incognito lingual braces
This dental device represents the only system that can be considered 100% genuinely invisible. It consists of brackets that are placed on the inside of the teeth. Known as lingual orthodontics because of its placement on the inside of the teeth, this approach is ideal for people who want their orthodontic treatment to go unnoticed.
Incognito brackets are custom-made to fit each patient’s mouth, using a gold alloy. This reduces discomfort and friction. Due to the high level of specialization required to plan and execute an orthodontic procedure with lingual brackets, this device is the most expensive of all, with a starting price of €6,995.
Interceptive orthodontics
Finally, we would like to provide you with information on the cost of braces for children, which are part of orthodontic treatment for children. These treatments are usually divided into two phases:
The first phase, called interceptive orthodontics, focuses on directing bone development.
The second phase, known as corrective treatment, aims to reposition the teeth properly and achieve optimal alignment and occlusion.
A child orthodontic treatment that lasts approximately 12 months has an estimated cost of 1,395 €.
Is it necessary to wear retention after orthodontic treatment?
Once orthodontic treatment has been completed and the desired result has been achieved, it is essential to continue with a fundamental phase of the process: retention. This is because teeth have memory and tend to return to their original position if proper retention is not applied.
Orthodontics involves a significant financial investment and involves several months of treatment, so it is crucial not to neglect aftercare. To ensure that the teeth are held in position, there are two types of retainers:
- Fixed retainer: This device consists of a thin wire bar that is attached to the inner lingual side of the teeth. Cost about 100€.
- Non-digital removable retainers or Essix: These are clear splints that are used in both dental arches. Cost about €150.
- Digital removable retainers or Vivera: These are transparent splints, manufactured like aligners with a computer, which provide maximum retention. Cost about €305.
