Invisible orthodontic treatment is one of the most esthetically effective solutions available today. Its effectiveness, combined with its discretion and convenience, has made it a popular choice among adults and children alike. Although this treatment is much more flexible than braces, it is still important to take care of the splints, especially at this time of year. Therefore, from our dental clinic in Ibiza, we share with you some tips to keep your invisible braces at Christmas.
Do invisible aligners need special care?
Yes, they need it. While it is true that clear orthodontics is an accelerated solution that renews the splints every few days, these thermoplastic pieces can deteriorate if they are not properly cared for.
For example, they could become stained, be a breeding ground for bacteria or give you a bad taste in your mouth. They can even be lost.
Invisible orthodontic care at Christmas time
Pay attention to the following points and safeguard your teething progress this December.
- Remove the aligners for eating and drinking. With this option you will have no problems consuming hard foods. Of course, you have to remove the aligners first. Also remove them to drink sugary beverages, with alcohol or those options that can stain the pieces. Only leave them if it is about drinking water.
- Plan the time you will be without them. It is recommended to wear this type of orthodontics for 22 hours a day. So ideally, you should know in advance when you need to remove the splints, such as at dinner or a toast, for example. Also calculate the minutes you will need to be without them to keep track. But don’t be overwhelmed. You’ll be fine if you go a little overboard at Christmas.
- Store the invisible aligners in their case. When you take them out, put the aligners in the case that comes with them to prevent them from getting lost or coming into contact with other surfaces.
- Clean the splints. Cleanliness will always be key to maintaining good oral health and preserving treatments. Keep the splints clean at all times and don’t forget to brush after every meal or drink to avoid the accumulation of bacteria and food debris.
