Until a few years ago, when we had a tooth or molar extracted, we had to wait approximately three months for a dental implant to be placed. Subsequently, three more until the crown or dental prosthesis is fixed. However, nowadays, in some cases we can carry out the placement of dental implants right after an extraction. However, it is important to note that this procedure can only be performed on incisors and canines.
In this article, from our dental clinic in Barcelona, we explain the advantages of placing a dental implant immediately after performing a tooth extraction or extraction.
Advantages of placing dental implants right after extraction
First of all, by opting for this option, we favor that the patient only has to undergo one surgery, in which both the extraction and the fixation of the implant are carried out. In the usual protocol, however, two are necessary: one to remove the piece and one to place the implant.
Secondly, treatment times are shortened, so that the duration of treatment is approximately three months, compared to the usual six months.
Finally, thanks to this technique, we prevent the bone resorption that can occur after an extraction. In fact, according to the studies that exist to date, the bone remodeling that occurs after an exodontia is very marked, especially during the first four months.
