before getting an implant.
1. Does dental implants hurt?
The answer is no. A dental implant should not hurt. The entire procedure is performed under anesthesia to avoid discomfort and, after the intervention, there may be some discomfort easily controlled with medication, but no pain. In our clinic we place 90% of the implants through the gum without cutting or stitches, so there is no inflammation or pain in most cases.
2. How much do dental implants cost?
There are different types of dental implants and, depending on the one we want to place, their price may vary. Before we talk about the
price of a dental implant
we will take into account a series of factors:
- The material from which the crown is made.
- The need for bone grafting.
- If pre-implant treatment is required.
- Number of implants to be performed.
- Type of prosthesis.
In our dental clinics in Barcelona and Ibiza, IMOI, we have very competitive budgets, so that the design of your smile is not a problem for you. You can have a dental implant from 600€.
If you have lost bone and gum or have been missing teeth for years, you may need a bone graft. In our IMOI Clinics in Barcelona and Ibiza you can get it from 295€.
3. What type of dental implants should I have?
Yes, there are so many
types of dental implants
that you may wonder which one is right for you. Our team of experts will advise you so that you can decide which one suits you best. If circumstances permit, it is possible to place an immediate load implant, so that you can replace the lost tooth without having to wait months.
4. Is rejection of dental implants common?
If the treatment has been performed properly and all the guidelines recommended by the dentist are followed, dental implant rejection rarely occurs.
The
peri-implantitis
is an inflammatory process that can occur after the placement of an implant and that compromises the survival of the implant. It is a problem that can be solved, but it must be treated immediately, so it is important to attend all postoperative check-ups.
5. With what type of anesthesia are dental implants placed?
The most common way to place an implant is to do it under local anesthesia. This type of analgesia is sufficient so that the patient does not suffer pain or notice the intervention. However, for people who suffer from dental phobia or who are so anxious about treatment that they cannot make up their minds, conscious sedation can be used. Thanks to this anesthesia, the patient is totally relaxed, free of fear and pain at the time of treatment. In certain cases, general anesthesia may be used.
We cannot give you a specific price for sedation because it depends on your characteristics and health problems. Our team of anesthesiologists will make a pre-operative visit and will ask you for some tests that vary according to the patient.
6. How long does it take to place a dental implant?
Dental implant placement surgery is a fairly quick surgical procedure. A surgery of 2 or 3 implants can take from 10 to 20 minutes and in the case of needing to place implants in the whole mouth, the procedure can take up to 45 minutes.
Surgery involving a bone or gum graft may be extended by an additional 20 minutes per graft.
If during the planning of the surgery it is foreseen that it may last more than one hour, we advise the IMOI anesthesiology team to perform intravenous sedation. The patient will have no memory of the procedure and will leave with all the medication already administered.
What is the duration of treatment with dental implants in patients with lack of bone?
The total duration of treatment for patients with severe bone atrophy of the maxilla or mandible, which includes dental implants and grafting performed in two separate stages, can be as long as 9 months. There is a healing and osseointegration period of 4 to 6 months and about 3 months for the fabrication of the dental prosthesis.
8. Do implants prevent other dental pieces from falling out?
Dental implants help maintain the health of the maxillofacial bone, preventing its recession and gums. Missing teeth may result in bone loss that compromises adjacent bone. Likewise, when we do not place an implant, the surrounding molars have to make more effort and there may be changes in the bite that may damage the teeth.
9. How are dental implants cleaned?
Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential for longevity and proper care of dental crowns. Like natural teeth, dental crowns require regular cleaning to prevent plaque build-up and maintain their functionality. As your article indicates, dental implants should be cleaned with toothbrush and toothpaste, just like the rest of the teeth. By thoroughly brushing the dental crown and surrounding teeth, you can effectively remove plaque and bacteria, ensuring the health and longevity of your crown. However, it is important to note that oral hygiene goes beyond simple brushing. Following the guidelines provided in your article, it is essential to brush your teeth after every meal and to use mouthwash and dental floss during the last brushing of the day. This comprehensive approach to oral hygiene helps ensure that all areas, including the dental crown, are properly cleaned and free of plaque and bacteria. Maintaining a good oral hygiene routine not only promotes the overall health of teeth and gums, but also plays a crucial role in the maintenance of dental crowns. Neglecting proper oral hygiene practices can lead to gum disease and further damage to the dental crown. So remember to brush your teeth regularly, including the dental crown, and incorporate mouthwash and flossing into your daily routine. By doing so, you will be able to keep your dental crown in top condition and enjoy its benefits for years to come.
10. From what age can implants be inserted?
Implants can be placed in patients 18 years of age and older. However, it is advisable to wait until growth is complete.
11. How long do I have to wait to place the crown?
Depending on the type of implant. With traditional implants, the waiting time between the placement of the screw and the crown is usually three months, while with immediately loaded implants, it is only necessary to wait a few hours.
12. Can I smoke before and after getting an implant?
Smoking seriously damages gum health and hinders healing. In addition, tobacco is one of the factors that may favor the appearance of peri-implantitis, so its use is not recommended.
