Invisalign is the revolutionary technique for aligning teeth.

Dental aesthetics in recent years has come a long way. Until recently, people who were embarrassed to wear metal braces preferred not to pursue dental treatment, putting oral health at risk.
For patients with this problem is the solution of using aesthetic brackets which, by doing the same function are of other materials that make them less visible when smiling, even invisible, if tongue bracketsare used. The most aesthetic bracts are porcelain and aesthetic sapphire brackets. Access the different sections to expand on information and characteristics of each type
In recent years, the Invisalign dental splints have been incorporated into traditional and aesthetic treatments, as transparent remove-and-put alignerscan gently align teeth. This technology has managed to convince the most reluctant to carry “irons” in the mouth, as it is comfortable and not seen. The patient can make a totally normal life without affecting their appearance, and even improve it as treatment progresses.

How do Invisaling transparent aligners work?

The Invisalign is a process that begins by conducting a specific orthodontic study in which X-rays, photographs, a bite log and impressions of your teeth are sent directly to the United States where a 3D virtual model of your mouth is scanned and created, using a program designed to move your teeth virtually to the ideal position. The orthodontist makes the diagnosis of the case and designs the entire treatment from start to finish, dividing it into stages that will correspond to each Invisalign aligner. The patient will be able to see a simulation of the progress of the treatment, before making the complete sequence of aligners.
Then, if the patient is satisfied, the data is sent to the lab to manufacture the entire sequence of aligners. Once we have them, the Invisalign aligners will change every 2 weeks until the end. To give us an idea, between 6 and 48 different dental aligners may be required. But depending on the severity of the case, more may be required. Each aligner moves the teeth 0.25-0.33 mm, sometimes being softer than metal or aesthetic brackets, better tolerated and producing more physiological movements.

The aligners are manufactured by CAD-CAM technology and stereolithography, that is, from a computer the aligners are printed in 3D, based on adding thin layers of photosensitive liquid resin that solidify with ultraviolet light.
Depending on the movement required for each tooth, we may have to stick some white attachments to help us.
It is also sometimes necessary to “strip”, that is, reduce the width of the teeth so that all enter. This has 2 advantages, avoids extracting and makes the contact points of the teeth wider leaving a more stable result over time.

What should be taken into account when using Invisalign?

It is important that Invisalign aligners are used as long as possible during the day and night, removing them only for sleep and cleaning (about 20 hours a day). When used all the time, the movements are smoother and maintained over time. Keep in mind that you see teeth moving, but the bone around the roots takes time to properly reshape.
In the use of these dental aligners, it is important to take into account:
  • Every time you change the aligners it is normal to have small discomfort for 2-3 days.
  • At first it is normal to be noticed when talking, but it disappears as we get used to it.

What are the advantages of Invisalign aligners?

This type of aesthetic orthodontics has the following advantages:
  • Invisalign aligners are very discreet.
  • Comfort by not wearing arches or brackets that can affect gums
  • Easy for brushing.

You have to keep in mind that pre-diagnosis by an expert orthodontist is very important, to check that you can use this type of invisible orthodontics. That is why all our patients, on their first visit, are given a complete dental study and a totally free TAG, to be able to diagnose the problem and be able to offer the most appropriate and least expensive solution and follow-up, without any commitment on their part. How long does invisible orthodontic treatment last?

Treatment with invisible orthodontics is usually longer than Treatments with brackets, but their advantages are aesthetics and comfort, since you can take them off to eat and can be cleaned much easier. Invisible orthodontics is an alternative to keep in mind, since you will notice how your smile improves without the discomfort of brackets.

At the end of a treatment performed with invisible orthodontics it is advisable to use the dental retainers to maintain the new position of the teeth while the gum, bone and musculature of the mouth adapts to the new situation. If not used, the teeth would try to return to the position they were in, making it necessary to repeat the treatment and it must be taken into account that in repeated treatments, the teeth suffer more. To learn more about the types of retainers see this section

The best thing is always that you talk to your orthodontist to have realistic expectations regarding the time of each technique, the comfort… Etc. Tell us all your doubts and expectations, so that we can apply the technique that best suits you. Don’t give anything for granted because every patient is a world and there are different ways to address each problem.

Previous aspects before using invisible orthodontics

In some cases, before starting invisable orthodontic treatments, it may be necessary to remove some teeth in order to correct the position of neighboring teeth. The space for the teeth is what it is, and there are times when you lack space to have all your teeth aligned.

While it is true, that less and less tends to this solution, gaining space with other techniques such as stripping, which consists of wearing down the teeth on the sides so that they take up less space. But obviously, this technique has its limitations and not everyone can do it to you.

In any case, if it has been necessary to remove baby teeth because they did not enter, it is almost certainly that some permanent teeth will have to be removed. How you can check in these cases
